Ouch!

5 words: Jillian Michaels Kicked My ASS!!!

So thanks to my sister in law, I found that there are YouTube videos of workouts. This morning I (and the boys actually) completed Jillian's 30 day shred. It wasn't a hard workout, but it was exactly what I needed!! My legs are wicked sore right now, but I am do glad...changes are happening!

Epic fail???

Well, let just say that the title says it all. I haven't been very good during the month of July...at all! I am just as unhealthy as before, and I put back on the weight that I lost. Needless to say I feel like a yo-yo, and have no one to blame but myself!

The good thing about it though...everyday can be a day that you make a change! So today is another day, and I vow to be a better person than I was yesterday! Wow...got a little preachy there huh?? lol

There was something that Dennis and I did a year ago that made us so happy, organized, healthy (of both mind and body)...why oh why did we stop????

Here are the rules, put the debit cards down. Eat/drink only what you have in the house (or our parents house!!). Exercise everyday. Turn off the DVD player/Netflix and instead fold laundry, read a book, or do the dishes! Use a calendar. Use the envelope system (thanks Dave Barry!).

Simple rules...amazing outcomes!

Let's see if I can do better!

Becky

Hiatis!

OK....I am still here...

First of all, I have had the best two weeks of my summer yet!!  I watched my baby boy graduate from Pre-school, I took the boys camping twice, I went out of town with my hubby (and him alone) for the first time since our honeymoon, I spent time with awesome family, and great friends.  Everything was truly awesome.  If you are friends with me on facebook, feel free to look at the 150+ pictures (OMGOSH) that I uploaded.

Second of all...I totally owe a picture of the boys burying me in the sand.  I have not lost anymore weight!  good news, I haven't gained any back, but still... SO I am back on the wagon...or is it off the wagon?  I don't understand that phrase.  Let's just say that I am back on track doing what I need to do to be healthy!!

While I was getting ready to go camping, I realized how much organization goes into the food prep alone.  As I was getting ready, I went shopping with a list of every meal that we would be having.  I also bought zip-lock bags.  Now, I usually don't buy them...I find them wasteful, and I don't like that I can't reuse them.  HOWEVER, it makes prepping camping food so simple!  As I was chopping my veggies, and marinating my chicken, I had an 'aha' moment.  Why the heck was I not doing this every week???  Dennis and I recycle, we buy local when we can afford to, we grow our own veggies, we unplug when we are not using, I bike to work, Dennis walks to work....I can buy zip-lock bags darn it!!!

So on Sunday, I went grocery shopping.  In my head I knew the meals that I was going to plan for.  When I got home, I took out my new best friend and I separated the meats (or just took them out of the packaging) and I put them in marinades.  I peeled, washed, and chopped my veggies (including my potatoes) divided them up, added EVOO, salt, and pepper.  Now, when I am exhausted after spending the day at the beach (rough life, I know), I can come home and just cook...without the hassle of the prep-work.  Plus, it really saves on my dishes!  This week we are having a variety of squash, zucchini, broccoli, cauliflower, and carrots for veggies.  Everything from grilled chicken, to tacos, to steak, and turkey burgers.  Oh, and a salad for lunch every day, with fresh lettuce from my garden!!  As a bonus, my fridge looks organized!! (until you move stuff and see the back of the fridge...SCARY! lol

Happy summer everyone!!  Here is to being healthy!!!

Becky

Day 21-22

Well, it is 8am and I have already completed my workout for the day!  That may seem like a good statement, but I actually can't stand running when I first get up.  No matter how much I stretch, I feel like I am running with lead in my legs.  But I don't start out feeling bad, it is usually right at mile 1.  All of a sudden I just hit a wall!  I know that a lot of people work out in the morning, but here is my question...do people wake up at 5 run around the house doing stuff for an hour and then go running??  Why would anyone wake up at 5??  That is just ridiculous on its own!  Anywho...running for the day is done.  I did about 2.3 miles, not a lot, but my right calf is still bothering me a little and I don't want to push it too much.

Remember the challenge that I proposed to myself??  Well I made it even harder...yesterday for Father's Day, we went out for pizza at Talk of the Town...then we had ice cream...AHHHH  I haven't stepped on the scale, but I have to work tonight and we will see how it is!

Speaking of pizza and ice cream...I am all for eating healthy and making positive decisions, but I also believe in indulgences.  Not everyday or all the time, but what is the point in denying the simple pleasures of a slice of  hot pizza right out of the oven of one of the best pizza places in the area??  I didn't overdo it, and I am not going to feel guilty about it either.  I do not believe that we should be rewarding ourselves with food (we aren't dogs), but I think that we should be able to enjoy the things that we eat, and not count calories ALL the time!

The problem with a lot of people, myself included (hopefully not anymore!), is that they don't make healthy choices and count calories enough!  They are "indulging" every day...that is the norm.  People seem to think that it is OK to be overweight.  I love it when people say to me "you are NOT fat!"  Um...yes I am.  I do not think that we should be sticks, obsessed with our looks and our bodies.  But I do think that we need to be healthy, reducing our risk for weight related illnesses.  I need to be able to run with my kids and set an example for them.  Lets not berate ourselves for needing to lose 5-10 pounds, but lets put down the bag of chips already!!  And lets face it...most people need to lose more than 5-10 pounds.  I still need to lose 30-40 pounds!!

Day 18-20

Can I begin by telling you all how much I love summer.  Everything about it is so wonderful; the sunshine, the smell of the grass, the smell of evening campfires, the beach, swimming in the pool, the fresh fruits and veggies...everything about summer makes me happy.  Yesterday and today have been two of the best days of the summer yet!  We did everything from going to Lake George, to Slippin and Slidin in the back yard, to swimming at Mim and Pip's pool!  On top of that there were garage sales, BBQ's, friends and family, and a baseball game!  Nothing makes me happier than a good summer day!

So, if I haven't sickened you with my good mood yet, it is going to get better: I am down to 196.4 pounds!  Just over 10 pounds lost, and only 6.4 pounds until I am back to where I was last summer!  If I am really good this week, I bet I can be at 190 by next Saturday...Challenge accepted! (a little Barney Stinson quote)!!  Here is my challenge:  If by Saturday I make my goal, I can buy a new pair of running pants.  If I don't make my goal I have to let the boys bury me in the same on the beach and post pictures of it on this blog.  Ahhh!!

Here is another favorite food lately...quesadillas!  I just use a little shredded cheese and either chicken or beef (those already cooked strips work great unless I have leftovers) and a flour tortilla.  Put it in my cast iron pan and in 5 minutes I have lunch!  Add a small salad and I have a meal for 400 calories and it is mighty delicious!   Compare that to the 530 calories in the taco bell chicken quesadilla!

So I leave you with one last favorite...Parrot Bay Frozen Pina Colada...YUM (rhymes with rum which stands for fun!!)

Day 13-17

My new favorite breakfast: 6-8 strawberries fresh from my garden, .25 cup whole milk greek yogurt from the Argyle Cheese Farm, and .25 cup granola from the farmers market.  YUMMY!!  217 calories, 23 carbs, 11 fat, and 7 protein.  It is totally yummy, and the meal stays with you.  I'm not hungry 10 minutes later.  Although, I would prefer the non-fat greek yogurt, the fat that you get from dairy is "good fat."  and I am a firm believer that you do NOT eliminate a food group (carb, fat, or protein).  I have eaten it every morning since Saturday, and I can't wait to wake up and eat it again tomorrow!

So, my legs...I know that you all have been very worried! lol  I haven't run since the incident last week, but finally attempted to this evening.  I went for 2 miles at a good/fast pace.  Although they were sore, and a bit tight after, I think that I am on the mend!  Nothing that a little stretching and ice hot can't fix!!  Speaking of stretching, you all stretch before you work out right?  Do you know that your workout is as good as wasted if you don't stretch!  By the time you are warmed up, you are probably half-way through your workout.  However, if you take 5 minutes to stretch before your muscles will be ready to go!  Also, stretching right before bed can eliminate waking up feeling stiff and sore.  Try it if you don't believe me!

Tomorrow I have to work, so I wont be running.  I will be doing one of my pinterest workouts!  Search pinterest or google for "daily workouts" and see what you come up with.  You can find anything from a 10 minute quickie or a whole workout with meal plan!  Most of it has nothing to do with equipment or a gym, so NO EXCUSES!!  Here is what I will be doing:

I hope that you have a great day!

Day 8-12

I am so sorry for my absence this week.  It started out just busy from work, but then we found out that one of Dennis's family members passed away suddenly. Joe will be missed by everyone.  This weekend will be rough to say the least...

My actions this week have been poor.  I have been kind of ashamed to have started this blog.  It started with a great day on Monday!!  I ate wonderfully on Monday, went to work and checked my weight, and I lost another half a pound!  200.5 :)  But, then Tuesday came around and it was a "dark day."  I call my bad days "dark days" since it sounds better than calling it what it is.  I was grumpy, unmotivated, and ate terribly...not bad foods, just too much of them.  It wasn't something that I was proud of, or wanted to share.  But the truth is, this summer is a journey; and I invited everyone to share it with me.  It's not going to work if I am not honest with myself, let alone you.  Wednesday was the day that Joey passed away, and it went downhill from there.

I did try to go running last night.  My calfs have been really tight so I haven't run this week.  Last night I didn't even go a mile and they started to cramp up.  I stretched again and walked for a minute.  When I started to run again, they were as hard a rocks and wicked painful.  I walked home, which was painful and took forever...I almost flagged someone down to drive me home.  Dennis went to the store get my some IcyHot while I had my legs on the heating pad.  That combination seemed to help, so I will be continuing that for a couple of days.  I am hoping by Tuesday I will be running again.

Excluding running, today will be the fist day of my uphill climb out f this rut.  I think that I am out of it; here is the proof.  I asked Dennis to get my some ice cream last night when he got me the IcyHot.  I still have an unopened pint f Ben and Jerry's Coffee Heathbar Crunch in my freezer.  It will stay unopened until I lose another 10.5 pounds.  HOLD ME TO IT PEOPLE!!

I hope that you enjoy the beautiful weather today.  I plan of bringing the boys back to the beach today.  Happy Friday!

xoxo Becky
