Day 3

Oh this was a hard day.  I knew that it was going to be when my tummy was rumbling when I woke up.  Then it was sure to be a bad day when the boys woke up in foul moods.  To make things worse, I had to go grocery shopping.  I was really grumpy since I was "hungry," but I was able to find some silver linings to my dark clouds today.

1) Skinny Cow Dreamy Delights!!  OMG yummy!!!!  Just what this sweet tooth needed in the middle of this day.  For a few dollars (sorry, can't remember) at walmart you can get a box with 6 packages.  Each package has 5 chocolate covered crispies and caramel.  95 calories (4 carbs, 8 fats, 4 protein).  Saved my afternoon!!

2) Awesome prices on fresh fruits and veggies at Aldi.  I was able to get pineapple, strawberries, peaches, pears, romaine, spinach, carrots, and a mango for under $18.  As much as I would love to visit a farmers market weekly, my grocery budget just doesn't allow that.  Aldi makes my life easier.

3) Even though I was really stiff, I was able to get a 2.6 mile run in tonight.  It was a battle with every step, and I was yelling at myself in my head...but I did it!

4) I DIDN'T CAVE!!  No matter how many unhealthy treats were waved in front of my face (and trust me there were a ton), I stuck to my guns and made it though another day!

So what am I going to do now?  I am going to take a shower, because I am a sweaty smelly mess, I am going to grab a book, and I am going to relax and be proud of myself.

Day 2

Crazy weather in the 518!!  But I didn't let the storms get in the way of a fun and productive day!  I started my day out by taking my boys and Cassie to the beach.  My dad met us there which was a nice bonus!!  Moreau Lake is an awesome place to bring the boys, and we are there a couple of times a week.  It was beautiful morning; we played on the playground, swam, built castles, dug holes and rivers, had a picnic, and were home before the storms started!  Now, I really don't like thunderstorms...especially when they interrupt my plans for grilling!!  Not to be outdone by some rain, I grilled with an umbrella in between storms!!  When things started to clear up, I was able to go for a 3.2 mile run. All in all, a great day!!

Yesterday I mentioned that I was tracking the food that I eat.  By using a website such as sparkpeople.com.  I can enter foods that I eat and they calculate everything for me.  Here is what I had today.

168 oz of water (filled up my water bottle 7 times)

breakfast: 131 calories (22 carbs, 0 fat, 11 protein)
16 oz regular coffee with 0.2 cups skim milk
yoplait greek yogurt (coconut)

lunch: 287 calories (22 carbs, 13 fat, 20 protein)
2 rice cakes with 1 tablespoon of creamy PB
Omelet with 2 egg whites and 1 egg and 0.25 cups chopped green pepper

dinner: 400 calories (50 carbs, 8 fat, 33 protein)
grilled BBQ chicken (boneless skinless, half of a breast, with 1 tablespoon BBQ sauce)
roasted potatoes (0.5 cup)
half ear of corn on the cob
0.5 cup green beans
0.5 tablespoon EVOO

Snacks: 173 calories (32 carbs, 4 fat, 2 protein)
Small empire apple
9 baby carrots
1- 2" diameter homemade PB cookie

Grand total of 991 calories (126 carbs, 25 fat, 66 protein).  The website give a target range for total calories as well as for carbs, fats, and protein.  I am about 200-600 calories shy of the target zone.  This is nice for 830 at night.  This is usually when I snack, so if I going to, I can make a healthy decision that keeps me in the target zone.  OR, I can just drink another glass of water, do a little exercise that I saw on pinterest.com (more on that tomorrow!), and go to bed!!

Here is the thing.  It took me longer to type that up in this post than it did to put on the website.  Now I know what I had to eat and what else I can eat should I want to.  I find it beneficial to do while eating breakfast.  That way I know what I am going to eat and it takes the decision process away when I am really hungry.  It is also a way to trick myself.  For example, I just had lunch an hour ago, and I am "hungry" again.  If I can convince myself to hold out for another hour I can have one of my snacks and then I only have X hours until dinner!  During these first weeks, it is almost like I am ruled by what I can eat and when, but I am just re-training my body to be healthy!

Here is to another great day!  Looking forward to another one tomorrow!!  Sending positive thoughts your way...send them on back to me too!!!

Day 1

Well, its been a year since I started my original goals.  I ended up doing really good for about a month and a half.  I lost thirty pounds and 2 sizes.  But I also put 15 pounds back on and feel like crap again.  It wasn't all that difficult to lose the weight.  It was an attitude adjustment and a lifestyle change.  Well, I think that my previous attempt was a failure since I didn't stick with it.  This time, I am hoping it will be different.

Even though I have been reting to get back on track for a few weeks, I am considering this day 1.  Today I am tracking EVERYTHING that I eat.  For those of you who dont keep a food journal, I highly reccomend it!  Not only does it track what you are eating, but it makes your decisions of what to eat really simple.  They have free online trackers that make it so simple.  I use SparkPeople.com.  I can set goals and they recommend how many calories to consume as well as break it down to carbs proteins and fats.  I can also track my fitness should I chose.

So far today, I have had a yogurt and some water.  I didn't have any coffee (which probably accounts for why I am grumpy!), but I will have some this afternoon when I go to work.  I have no idea what I am going to have for lunch and dinner, and I am sure that it isn't going to be good.  It's Memorial day for goodness sakes!!  I will try do my best, but tomorrow I will report if I was successful.  WAIT!  What the hell!!!  Just because it is a holiday weekend, doesn't mean that I have to be a gross pig!  Memorial Day is a holiday to honor and remember those who have served for our Country.  It is not a holiday celebrating how many burgers I can eat!  This is summer, a time to eat fresh fruits and veggies!  I will make a nice salad for dinner to bring to work.  I can bring some strawberries and almonds for dessert and a snack.  Perfect!  For lunch I can eat a hamburger (without the bun) and some grilled veggies.  I can do this!!

I am not running today since I ran the past two days, and I am actually beat.  But I am riding my bike to and from work!

So, I guess I am off!  This time will be different...this time I am going to make a change.  I am going to be a healthy person who my kids can look at and be proud of.  This is going to work!

See ya tomorrow!
